The MINI Cooper N14 and N18 timing chain rattle on cold start is famous — and it's not cosmetic. The plastic chain guides shatter, the chain skips, and the engine eats itself. We replace the chain, both guides, and the updated tensioner as a complete kit.
Every MINI timing job at ISA includes a valve cover reseal (typically leaking anyway), spark plug replacement (since the coils have to come off), and an oil change with fresh OEM filter.
Common MINI Cooper issues we see
- Cold-start rattle ('death rattle') from a stretched chain
- P0016 cam/crank correlation fault
- Broken plastic chain guides found in the oil pan
- Carbon-fouled intake valves contributing to misfires post-repair
