Subaru's Lineartronic CVT needs Subaru High Torque CVT Fluid — not a universal CVT fluid. We carry the genuine Subaru fluid and follow the factory service procedure: drain, refill, temperature-controlled level check, and adaptation reset.
Most Subaru CVT failures we see started as 'lifetime fluid' that wasn't lifetime. We recommend a 60k-mile interval for Colorado driving — altitude, towing, and cold starts all shorten CVT fluid life dramatically.
What we do on every Subaru transmission repair & service
- Drain and refill with Subaru High Torque CVT Fluid
- Replace the external CVT filter when equipped
- Perform the factory temperature-controlled level check (95–115°F window)
- Reset the CVT learning adaptation
- Road test for proper ratio sweep and lockup engagement
Common Subaru issues we see
- Shudder during light-throttle cruise (often torque converter clutch wear)
- Hesitation from neutral to drive after cold start
- P0840 / P0841 transmission fluid pressure sensor codes
- Loss of high-altitude acceleration (often valve body)
