VW 2.0T EA888 Gen 1 and Gen 2 engines have a known timing chain tensioner weakness — when it fails, the chain skips and bends valves. We replace these proactively or after a P0008/P0016 fault using the updated tensioner and OEM chain kit.
TDI and older 1.8T owners get a different procedure: timing belt, tensioner, water pump, idlers, and crank seal as a kit. We do them as kits because doing one without the others is a guaranteed comeback.
Common Volkswagen issues we see
- EA888 Gen 1/2 chain tensioner failure (P0008/P0016)
- TDI timing belt overdue causing valve damage
- EA211 'belt in oil' breakdown clogging the oil pump pickup
- Water pump failure mid-interval on belt-driven engines
